I got these figures off of globalfirepower.com
Some of these figures speak for themselves. The US military budget is by far larger than Russia's, it is also larger then Russia and the next 8 militaries combined. The US military budget has been larger then everyones for decades, and this is a controversial topic, because some people look at it and think why should we spend that much money if no one else is spending anywhere close to that. The US's belief is that it takes a lot of money to make the best and maintain the best, and so far they seem to be right. There has not been an army that has stood up to the US that stood much of a chance. So without a fight, the budget category goes to the USA.
The next figure is about tanks, the number of tanks looks pretty obvious however it is not. The US tank fleet is made up of almost all M1A1 Abrams, one of the best tanks in the world. Where as the Russian Fleet is made up of about 1500 t-90 tanks, which is arguably the best tank in the world, however the rest are made up of old out dated tanks from the cold war and older. Now the fact is that even though the Russian tanks are old they are still extremely well built and could stand up in a fight against almost all current tanks. So I believe that the Tank category goes to Russia.
The next few categories of aircraft, fighters, and helicopters go together. I believe this is a complete landslide for the US because of the vast number difference. There is also the fact that the US is the only country with a operational fifth gen fighter with a second one coming within the next few years. Russia and China are both currently working on their fifth gen fighter fleets and both are not to be operational till about 2020. Another strong point for the US is that they have claimed they have begun work on a sixth gen fighter which is supposed to be operational by 2030. I believe this category goes to the US.
The next categories also go together. These are naval strength, aircraft carriers, destroyers, and submarines. These numbers, especially the aircraft carriers, goes towards the US. Aircraft carriers, especially the large ones of the US, seem to play a pivotal role in how countries fight battles. The help that they provide from the sea, and the fact that they can go around the world in a short amount of time and provide heavy support is a great factor in any fight. And for that I believe this category also goes to the US.
Now that I have shown these numbers, there is one major category that is not listed. Air defense, if the US does attempt to invade they will have to battle what is said to be the best air defense system in the world. Now it is unknown how the US aircraft will be able to battle against the air defense system or if it will be able to render the US air power completely useless. I believe that with the current way wars are fought, air superiority is essential. If the US airpower is not stopped by the air defense system I think the war will be won by the US however if the Russian air defense system wins I believe that Russia will win the War. I believe that all other numbers are pointless without air superiority, and whoever has that will win the war. This is also the reason that I am not going to pick a winner because I have no clue who will win this, and there for no clue who will win the war. You can make your own opinions about it.
Please share what your thoughts are, who will win, and tell me why you think that.
